Wych elm (Ulmus glabra)
Wych elm grows wild mainly in Central Europe, the British Isles and the Caucasus. In Finland, wild wych elm is a protected species and it can be found in nutrient-rich clay-based soil found in forest groves. However, the wych elm used in our guitars comes from parks located in towns of southern Finland. Occasionally, some of the oldest wych elms need to be cut down for safety reasons. What would be better re-use of this rare, old wood than a handcrafted guitar with a beautiful sound. Wych elm is suitable for the sides, back and neck of guitars, and also works well for the fingerboards and bridges.
